DISTRICT TECHNOLOGY Computers are used at all grade levels, with age-appropriate instruction that includes internet safety. In high school, students interested in a career in engineering or computer technology have the opportunity to explore options through classes such as Computer-Aided Drafting and Design, Advanced Graphic Communications and Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems, or through our Project Lead The Way pre-engineering program. Technology is also used in our district to facilitate overall student achievement. A comprehensive information management/student assessment system allows us to closely monitor student progress, identify achievement gaps and improve instructional practices. For more information regarding technology in our schools, please review our Comprehensive Technology Plan.

Chalkboards and dry erase boards are giving way to an exciting new classroom technology: interactive electronicwhiteboards called SMARTBoards. As part of our current capital improvement plan, the Binghamton City School District is adding over 500 SMARTBoards in classrooms throughout the district.
ontrolled screen, SMARTBoards help to energize lessons and engage students. The teacher's computer desktop image is projected onto the interactive whiteboard. The teacher and/or students can then write on the board in digital ink, or use their finger in the same way a desktop mouse is used to control computer applications by pointing, clicking and dragging.
